
CHICAGO — A pair of thieves have stolen cellphones from at least 22 people Downtown since the beginning of August, police said.
In the incidents, the thief or thieves walk up to a victim from behind, grabbed the victim's cellphone and then ran away or rode off on a bicycle, according to a Chicago Police community alert. During four of the incidents, the thieves got away in a white Cadillac.
The thefts occurred:
• The morning of Aug. 6 in the first block of East Hubbard Street
• The evening of Aug. 6 in the 300 block of East Illinois Street
• The afternoon of Aug. 6 in the 300 block of East Illinois Street
• The afternoon of Aug. 7 in the 600 block of North Michigan Avenue
• The afternoon of Aug. 9 in the 900 block of North Wells Street
• The morning of Aug. 10 in the 400 block of North Orleans Street
• The afternoon of Aug. 10 in the 200 block of East Ohio Street
• The afternoon of Aug. 10 in the 100 block of East Grand Avenue
• The afternoon of Aug. 10 in the 200 block of East Delaware Place
• The afternoon of Aug. 11 in the 200 block of West Kinzie Street
• The afternoon of Aug. 11 in the 600 block of North Lake Shore Drive
• The morning of Aug. 12 in the first block of East Chicago Avenue
• The afternoon of Aug. 14 in the 500 block of North State Street
• The afternoon of Aug. 14 in the 200 block of East Illinois Street
• The morning of Aug. 18 in the 400 block of North Clark Street
• The morning of Aug. 21 in the first block of West Schiller Street
• The morning of Aug. 30 in the first block of East Illinois Street
• The evening of Sept. 6 in the first block of East Ontario Street
• The evening of Sept. 6 int he first block of West Hubbard Street
• The evening of Sept. 7 in the 400 block of North Wabash Avenue
• Evening of Sept. 18 in the 400 block of North Michigan Avenue
One thief was described as a 15- to 20-year-old boy or man who was black, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet and 130-150 pounds with dreadlocks, police said. The other thief was described as an 18- to 24-year-old man.
