CHICAGO — A man was killed when a driver hit him while trying to get away from a shooting in Austin on Saturday afternoon, police said.

At 12:26 p.m., a 63-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of North Central Avenue when a gray Jeep drove by and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The 63-year-old man was hit in his upper left arm and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. A 20-year-old man who was running from the shooting was injured his chin and right hand but refused medical attention.

A 56-year-old man who was on the block was hit by the driver of a Ford Escape who was trying to get away from the shooting, police said. The man was taken to Loyola Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A Ford Escape has been found, but it was unknown if it was involved in the shooting, police said.

No one was in custody.
