UKRAINIAN VILLAGE —  Two burglaries happened on the same day and block last week, according to a Near West Police District (12th) alert issued on Friday.

In both incidents, which occurred on Sept. 12, an unknown person or multiple people "damaged door locks and door frames to gain entry" to homes and stole property from inside the homes.

These incidents — in the 2300 block of West Augusta Boulevard — happened sometime between 5:10-5:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Area Central Bureau of Detectives are investigating.

Police ask neighbors to be aware of surroundings and report suspicious activity immediately. If confronted, remain calm and remember any unique physical characteristics like scars or acne.

Victims should not pursue offenders, but report information to police and save any surveillance or video footage of the incident and contact information from potential witnesses.

Anyone with tips or information should call 312-747-8382 and reference reports JA428638, JA428849 and P17-1-255.
