ENGLEWOOD — A "Hoopfest Showdown" will take place Sept. 30 at Ogden Park for boys and young men ages 11-21.
It's hosted by Books Over Balls, a male mentoring program that brings young men together in Englewood through basketball. The group uses sports to bring in the teens, then emphasizes academics.
The organization, founded in 2012, offers life coaching and the coaches share their own experiences. Guests are invited to speak to the participants.
Registration for the event is at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the park, 6500 S. Racine Ave.
To qualify, participants form a team of four. The 4-on-4 tournament will go from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the park.
