ANDERSONVILLE — Jai Sookhakitch and Executive Chef Joe Sukjam officially cut the ribbon on their seafood and small plate restaurant in Andersonville Tuesday.

While Blu 57 at 5701 N. Clark St. has been hosting "an extended soft opening" since August, the restaurant, which offers a Thai spin on classic dishes, wasn't quite ready to invite the whole neighborhood in until this week, the owners said.

"We took the last month to work out the kinks and get the staff ready," said Sookhakitch.

Neighbors already have been taking advantage of specials like Seafood Sundays, where items from the ocean section are 30 percent off, and Steak Wednesdays, where items from the steak section are 40 percent off, but they can expect some changes to the food routine.

The small plates will rotate as the weather changes and Sukjam will introduce new ingredients as they become available. The prix fix offerings will also change monthly, he said.

At the request of recent patrons, the restaurant also is considering adding a takeout option, Sookhakitch said.

Blu 57 is the most recent addition to a portion of Clark Street that's garnering a lot of attention from businesses from Bryn Mawr Avenue to the Gethsemane Garden Center, 48th Ward Ald. Harry Osterman said at the ribbon-cutting.

"We look at this place being a cornerstone for many years to come. It can spread the economic development throughout Andersonville," he said.

The BYOB restaurant already is gaining fans. With nearly 20 reviews on Yelp, it has won a 4½-star average rating, with one customer commenting, "Some of the best seafood I've had, and I don't even like seafood."

Said another reviewer, "The flavors were amazing."
