CHICAGO — The 18-year-old son of the chief executive officer of the CHA has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting incident in Indianapolis, reports say.

Eugene Jones was taken into custody on suspicion of murder and robbery Tuesday evening, according to the Indianapolis Star. Jones turned himself in to police, the paper reported.

Eugene Jones is the son of Eugene Jones Jr., the CHA's chief executive officer.

In a statement, the public housing boss said the situation facing his son is one no parent expects to find themselves in, that he will handle it as a family matter and cannot comment further, the Associated Press reported.

The shooting was reported about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The victim, Deante Williams, was sitting in a car near a park with his girlfriend when he was shot, according to the Star. The paper quoted officers saying the victim was planning to meet Jones in the park.

The father was named head of the CHA by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in January of 2016 after serving as acting CEO since June of 2015.

The father "has extensive housing and real estate development experience working for public housing authorities in Toronto, Detroit, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Kansas City, New Orleans and California," according to a news release issued at the time of his nomination.

Jones Jr. named 2016 as "Year of the Youth," which included connecting CHA employees with needy youth to serve as mentors.

A 2012 profile of Jones Jr. in the National Post when he held a similar housing position in Toronto, said he was born in Detroit but grew up in various places as his father, who was in the Air Force, served in cities around the world.
