WEST RIDGE — Chicago residents living in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy have an opportunity to renew their status at a free workshop Friday.
From 10 a.m.-3 p.m., "dreamers" whose status is set to expire between now and March 5 can head to the Indo-American Center at 6328 N. California Ave. in West Ridge to renew their paperwork and learn more about how potential changes to the law may affect them.
Residents must bring required documents, such as a birth certificate, employment authorization card, state ID and/or driver’s license, social security card, consular ID, all passports, an I-94 card (if applicable) and two passport size photos.
Though the workshop to facilitate the renewal is free, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires a $495 money order for the application.
Following the renewals, from 4-6 p.m. the center will host a Know Your Rights question and answer session with attorneys.
