South Deering Shooting Leads To Murder Charges For Man, Police Say

CHICAGO — A man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of another man Saturday in South Deering, police said.

At 8:47 p.m. Saturday, Delton Bates was in the 9700 block of South Merrion Avenue when he got into an argument with Darrius Buckley, officials have said. Bates fired shots at Buckley, hitting him in his head multiple times, police said.

Buckley, 33, of the 9600 block of South Brennan, was pronounced dead at 9:12 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Bates, 42, of the 9700 block of South Merrion Avenue, has been charged with first-degree murder, police said. He was scheduled to appear in Bond Court on Tuesday.
