Burglars Plow Car Into Bucktown Sneaker Shop, Steal Merchandise, Police Say

CHICAGO — Burglars used a car to crash into a Bucktown store early morning, creating an opening so they could get inside and steal merchandise, police said.

At 2:21 a.m., a red car was driven into the storefront's glass window in the 1700 block of West North Avenue, police said. People who were inside the car then went inside the store, Diplomatic 1750, grabbed merchandise and drove away in two other cars, described as dark colored.

A photo taken at the scene by NVP Video shows a red car on the sidewalk after police arrived.

No one was in custody.

Two witnesses said they had seen the red car back out of Diplomatic 1750, a clothing and show store at 1750 W. North Ave., shortly after the two had returned from a club. Hours later, around 11 a.m., the witnesses were in front of the store showing Diplomatic 1750's owners video they'd taken of the red car backing out of the storefront.

"For a few minutes, there were guys taking stuff and putting it in the car. It was unusual. I have never seen something like this before," one of the witnesses told DNAinfo.

Diplomatic 1750 opened about three months ago, according a video tour on its Facebook page.

The two men who identified themselves as owners of Diplomatic 1750 declined to comment.
