Portage Park Robbers Stab 55-Year-Old Man Who Refused To Give Them Money

CHICAGO — A group of robbers stabbed a 55-year-old man and left him in critical condition after he refused to give them money in Portage Park early Saturday morning, police said.

The incident occurred in the 4100 block of North Long Avenue around 1:31 a.m.

A trio of robbers walked up and told the man to give them money. He refused, leading one of the robbers to stab him with a knife twice in his back and once in his stomach.

The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

Police believe the same group had robbed someone else at gunpoint about 30 minutes earlier in the 4400 block of North Mango Avenue, according to an alert issued Saturday.

Police described one of the robbers as a Hispanic teen between 16 and 20 years old, standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. He was seen wearing a wearing a red, white and black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, police said.

Another robber was described as a black teenager with dreadlocks, standing around 5 feet 8 inches tall, police said.

No one is in custody, police said.
