By Kelly Bauer | September 8, 2017 8:10am

CHICAGO — An officer shot a man in North Lawndale on Thursday night, police said.

At 9:57 p.m., officers officers received a report of gunfire and went to the 1100 blocks of South Sacramento Boulevard and South Richmond Avenue, according to a Chicago Police news release. They saw a man or boy run into a gangway and an officer got out of his car and chased the person.

An "armed confrontation" took place during the chase, police said, and the officer shot at the person. The man or boy was hit in his left arm and he was taken to an area hospital. Officers used a tourniquet to help the person, said Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi in a tweet.

A gun was found, police said. No officers were wounded during the incident.

The Independent Police Review Authority will investigate the incident, police said, and officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days.
