'We Care For Houston' Campaign Collecting Donations For Hurricane Victims

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Trinity United Church of Christ needs the city's help collecting items to ship to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Houston.

"In the aftermath of the devastation and disruption of life that Hurricane Harvey has brought upon the city of Houston, Texas, Trinity UCC and the United Church of Christ Disaster Relief Fund are standing ready to assist our brothers and sisters of this city," according to a statement from the church at 400 W. 95th St.

The Rev. Marcus D. Cosby, a Chicago native, is pastor of Trinity's United's sister church, Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston

To assist in relief efforts, Trinity United is sending the collected items to Wheeler Church, where it will then be distributed throughout the area. The collection will run Sunday through Sept. 14 during church hours.

Individuals and organizations who would like to help pack the items can contact the church at 773-962-5650.

Here is a list of items being collected:

• Unexpired non-perishables foods

• Crackers

• Granola bars, nuts and trail mix

• Cases of water

• Dried fruits (raisins, apricots, craisins, etc.)

• Clothing and linens

• Undergarments (new underwear, undershirts, bras, socks)

• Clothing (clean, gently used and/or new; all sizes from infant to plus sizes for male and female)

• Shoes (all sizes from infant to adult for males and females; clean, gently used and/or new)

• Bed linens, blankets, pillows, towels (all sizes, clean, gently used and/or new)

• Diapers and formula, new bottles, new pacifiers, crib sheets, baby blankets, baby wipes

• Combs, brushes, feminine hygiene products, disposable razors

• Toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, lotion, soap, hand sanitizer

• Bleach, bleach wipes, sponges, spray bottles, dish soap, mops, brooms, scrub brushes, sanitizer, laundry detergent

• School supplies, school uniforms (all sizes, toddler-adults; male/female), books (children and adults)

• Bandages (all sizes), instant cold packs, Vaseline, antibiotic ointment
