ENGLEWOOD — A job fair/hiring event in Englewood that attracted more than 300 people on Thursday was hailed by organizers as a success.

More than 40 people were hired on the spot and another 50 have interviews scheduled, said Asiaha Butler, president of the Resident Association of Greater Englewood.

The event was held at 6622 S. Union in the vacant lot next to RAGE's office. Georgia Pacific, Chipotle and UPS were some of the employers present. The event, hosted by the Englewood Public Safety Task Force, was made possible by the Safe and Peaceful Community Grant.

"It was absolutely amazing," Butler said. "The residents of Englewood are ready and willing to work. So many of them had their resumes ready and walked out smiling after hearing the words 'You're hired.'"

"This was the Englewood Public Safety attempt to truly meet the residents where they are with job opportunities," she said. "We heard nothing but great feedback from the attendees and employers. We will definitely be doing this again in the near future."
