CHICAGO — A man who allegedly sexually assaulted three children has been taken into custody in Mexico, according to the FBI.

The man, 42-year-old Hugo Sanchez, was arrested Tuesday by Mexican law enforcement in Acapulco, Mexico, according to an FBI news release.

From June 2001 to August 2003, Sanchez sexually assaulted three children in Chicago, according to the FBI. That August, Sanchez was charged with multiple counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. The three were sisters and Sanchez was their father's cousin, the Tribune reported in 2011 a series on fugitives.

Sanchez was charged with 88 counts of sex crimes and initially detained on no bond. After he was given a bond of $50,000, he fled, the Tribune reported.

Sanchez was released on bond and didn't turn up to anymore court hearings, according to the FBI. Authorities thought Sanchez had fled to Guerrero, Mexico, and in 2008 he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Sanchez was in the custody of Mexican law enforcement but was expected to be extradited to the United States, according to the FBI.
