LINCOLN PARK — The main construction crane for the south tower of the huge Lincoln Common development is now erected, and work on the foundations for both the north and south towers is expected to follow this week.

Hines/McCaffery Interests put out the latest update on the project on the site of the old Children's Memorial Hospital on Friday, noting that the tower crane had been installed and a canopy over the Fullerton Avenue sidewalk had been erected.

Concrete work was expected to continue on foundations for both the north and south towers this week and next, with the foundation to be poured for a second construction crane for the north tower the week of Sept. 11.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel joined in a formal groundbreaking on the project in May. It will build a pair of luxury apartment towers on the triangular lot at the former hospital site.

When construction is completed after what's estimated to be two years, it will have 540 units as well as 60 low-rise condominiums, 160,000 square feet of retail space and an acre of open space available to the public, not just residents.
