BUCKTOWN — A medical marijuana dispensary named NuMed is coming to North Avenue near the border of Bucktown and Lincoln Park, according to a building permit and the company's website.

Located at 1308 W. North Ave. in a one-story brick building across from punk club Exit and just east of Stanley's Fruit and Vegetable market, the NuMed dispensary is owned by GTI-NuMed LLC, state records show.

A company representative declined to immediately comment on the new dispensary, which was issued a city building permit for a $250,000 renovation on Aug. 16.

The permit approved "a buildout for a new business (gti medical cannabis dispensary)," according to Cityscape, which tracks city-issued permits.

The new location is listed on NuMed's website.

"We are currently working on creating a fantastic menu for our Chicago residents!" the website says.

A spokesman for Green Thumb Industries (GTI), which is a cultivator and operator of medical marijuana clinics in Downstate Effingham and The Clinic Mundelein, said on Monday that the facility will be a NuMed venture and not run by GTI.

Brendan Blume, co-owner of Begyle Brewing Co., is the owner of the 1308 W. North Ave. NuMed facliity. Blume was not immediately available for comment.

The GTI spokesman said his firm is assisting NuMed with trying to get the dispensary open and that NuMed's license is not approved to open yet.

"In the next 30 to 60 days we will know more information," the GTI spokesman said, adding "From our understanding, it is in regulators' hands."

Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) was not immediately available for comment. The nearest dispensary to NuMed is Logan Square's Modern Cannabis, 2369 N. Milwaukee Ave., which opened in February of 2016.

Under a pilot program approved in 2013, Illinois permits marijuana to be used for medical reasons.

In addition to Logan Square, Chicago has medical marijuana dispensaries in Uptown, Garfield Ridge, Jefferson Park and Norwood Park.
