CHICAGO — A robber shot and wounded a 73-year-old man who refused to hand over his belongings Thursday morning in West Lawn, police said.

At 6:27 a.m., the man was walking on the sidewalk in the 6100 block of South Kenneth Avenue when the robber got out of a black SUV and tried to hold him up, police said.

The 73-year-old man refused to hand over his belongings, and the robber fired shots, police said. The man was hit in his stomach and he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

The robber got back into the SUV and drove away, police said. No one was in custody.
