EDGEWATER — On Friday, Edgewater will join other Chicago neighborhoods in a "Lights for Love" peace walk through the community.

The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at Broman Park, at the corner of Broadway and Balmoral Avenue, where parents and children can mingle and get to know each other. Closer to 7 p.m., the group will walk along Magnolia Avenue north to Cochran Park, where the playing will resume.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own flashlights, candles or glow sticks to illuminate the night sky as they walk. Organizer and mom Amy Skeen said she'll be helping her boys — ages 2½ and 4½ — make signs with positive affirmations to carry along the way.

She also hopes to get volunteers to donate resources for children's activities, or even a musician who would be willing to play music.

Why the show of support?

"The message ... is simple: peace and love begin with each of us, can be shared with our families and community, and we all have the ability regardless of age to make a positive difference," Skeen said.
