COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A 41-year-old man has been charged with fondling a 10-year-old girl inside a Walmart on the Northwest Side.

The girl was shopping with her mother and sister Wednesday afternoon when Mario Rivera, 41, brushed past the girl and lightly touched her arm, according to an arrest report.

The girl didn't think much of it, police said, but Rivera soon circled back when the girl was alone. He is accused of pushing her into a shelf and fondling her over her clothing.

When the girl told her mother what happened, court records show, the woman loudly confronted Rivera inside the store at 4626 W. Diversey Ave.

Security personnel heard the commotion and began to question Rivera, who claimed he was at Walmart to buy shirts, bread and Red Bull, according to an arrest report.

The attack was caught on surveillance footage, authorities said.

Rivera, of the 1700 block of North Keating Avenue, was arrested at the store about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Cook County Judge James Brown on Friday set bail at $90,000.
