South Chicago Hit By 5 Carjackings In Less Than A Month, Police Warn

CHICAGO — South Chicago has seen five carjackings in less than a month, police warned.

The thieves in some cases held people up at gunpoint. In others, when drivers left cars unlocked and running, the thieves went into cars and took them, according to a Chicago Police community alert. The thieves have stolen cars, money and cellphones from their victims.

The carjackings occurred at:

• 11 p.m. July 28 at 8431 S. Manistee Ave.

• 2:07 a.m. Aug. 1 at 8700 S. Saginaw Ave.

• 5:05 a.m. Aug. 3 at 8444 S. Manistee Ave.

• 2 a.m. Aug. 7 at 7802 S. East End Ave.

• 8:45 p.m. Saturday at 7828 S. Euclid Ave.

Anyone with information about the hijackings was asked to call police at 312-747-8273.
