MOUNT GREENWOOD — Chicago's Public Building Commission will host a hiring fair Monday for 19th Ward residents interested in working on additions to Esmond and Mount Greenwood elementary schools.

Workers interested in "the site prep phase" of the project are welcome from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the music demonstration room at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences at 3857 W. 111th St. in Mount Greenwood.

Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) announced the hiring fair in an email late Tuesday morning. The two projects cost about $40 million combined.

"Projects like this are required to hire community residents to work on the job site. This hiring fair is a great chance to take advantage of that opportunity. I hope you can join us," O'Shea said in the email.

Mount Greenwood Elementary's addition will be built on the southeast corner of its campus. It will give the school capacity for 1,300 students and will include 11 new classrooms, an art room and additional bathrooms.

A new lunchroom will also be built in an existing building and a new playground and parking lot will replace the modular buildings in Mount Greenwood, according to previously revealed plans for the project.

Esmond Elementary in Morgan Park will also receive a new addition to its campus at 1865 W. Montvale Ave. This new building is meant to replace another structure that was added to the school in 1971 and long surpassed its projected 20-year life span.

The other existing buildings at Esmond will also receive new roofs, windows and tuckpointing. Several classrooms will also be upgraded, and the current buildings will also see changes aimed at improving the school's accessibility.
