GOLD COAST — A 23-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint over Lollapalooza weekend in a Gold Coast building lobby near the John Hancock Center, police said.

The victim was in a lobby at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 4 in the 200 block of East Delaware Place when the suspect threatened him with a gun and took his belongings, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The scene of the crime is about a block away from the 100-story Hancock Center on the Magnificent Mile.

The robbery occurred the same time as another reported by a 34-year-old man walking in an alley in the first block of West Illinois Street in River North. That victim said he was approached by two suspects who grabbed his cell phone and wallet then ran.

Police have yet to catch the three suspects.

Police have reported 25 robberies so far this year in the police beat bounded by Superior Street, State Street, Oak Street and Lake Michigan, more than double the 10 such robberies reported in the area during the same period last year.
