CHICAGO — A 25-year-old man was shot to death near Graceland Cemetery in Uptown early Sunday, police said.

At 6:52 a.m., the man was in the 1000 block of West Montrose Avenue when a black car drove up and someone got out of the car and fired shots, police said.

The man was hit in twice in his torso and was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in grave condition, police said. He was later pronounced dead.

The man was identified as Leon Saverhart Jr., of the 5700 block of South LaSalle, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Saverhart was pronounced dead at 7:35 a.m. and an autopsy showed he died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

The attacker, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, drove away after the shooting, police said. No one was in custody.
