By Tanveer Ali | August 12, 2017 8:39am

CHICAGO — Bullets hit two cars but injured no one in a shooting on the Stevenson Expressway early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred near Damen Avenue around 1:55 a.m.

One car going northbound and another going southbound were hit.

More than 25 shootings have been reported on Chicago expressways this year. In July, at least six people were wounded on expressways.

There were 47 shootings on Chicago area expressways in 2016.

There were 39 similar shootings in all of 2015.

Gov. Bruce Rauner in his budget address in February called for more Illinois State police for area expressways.

"Those officers will allow us to send more patrols to the Chicago area expressways to counter the violence that has spilled over on to the highways," Rauner told legislators.

In May, officials vowed to use more surveillance cameras on expressways to combat the situation which, they say, are driven by gang conflict. State police also said they had added more patrols to the Eisenhower and Dan Ryan Expressways.
