UPTOWN — The most serious form of skin cancer — malignant melanoma — claims one life every hour, according to the American Cancer Society.

But visual screenings can help identify the cancer early in more treatable stages.

From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Aug. 14, Thorek Memorial Hospital, 850 W. Irving Park Road, will provide free skin cancer screenings, the hospital said.

The screening should take less than 15 minutes and parking in the hospital lot is free, the hospital said.

Thorek dermatologist Dr. Neal Spero will conduct the screenings, which are not meant to replace a thorough skin examination conducted by a primary doctor, and provide on-site results, the hospital said.
