CHICAGO — Thieves are stealing rims from cars parked in some South Side Metra lots, and the commuter rail agency is asking for the public's help.
The thefts occurred at the Kensington/115th St., 93rd South Chicago and Hegewisch station parking lots used by the Metra Electric Line and the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District's South Shore Line. According to Metra, tires and rims were stolen from multiple vehicles in the lots.
"We are asking customers and members of the public for their assistance not only with identifying those responsible for the crimes but also preventing future occurrences," said Metra Police Chief Joseph Perez.
The Metra Police Department is working with Chicago police to identify the thieves. Metra urges drivers to conceal valuables in their cars and install wheel locks.
Those who witness suspicious activity or have information regarding the thefts, are asked to report the crime to the Metra police at 312-322-2800.
