COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Humboldt Park man has been charged in a police chase that injured three people and caused massive delays on the Eisenhower Expy. Tuesday.

Christian "Lil Chris" Coleman, 25, was denied bail Thursday after Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil revealed in court that one of the injured victims, a woman who was 12 weeks pregnant, might lose her baby.

Kuriakos Ciesil said she spoke with detectives earlier in the week while making a finding of probable cause to proceed with a bond hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, 2650 S. California Ave.

The victim "was trying very hard to get pregnant for some time," Kuriakos Ciesil said. "And as a result [of this crash], who knows what's going to happen?"

According to police and prosecutors, officers first tried to pull over Coleman about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 4200 block of West Monroe Street in Garfield Park after they noticed a juvenile wanted for a recent carjacking get into Coleman's 1998 Cadillac.

Coleman sped away and drove up to 60 mph as he led officers on a West Side chase that culminated in a multicar collision on the inbound Eisenhower, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during Coleman's bond hearing Thursday.

Coleman is accused of running a red light near Madison Street and Pulaski Road — where he struck two eastbound cars stopped for the light before being slammed by a third northbound vehicle.

Coleman continued to drive, police and prosecutors said, and hit another car before getting on the Eisenhower.

There he struck yet another vehicle, which flipped 1½ times before stopping upside down, Scaduto said. The driver of that car was 12 weeks pregnant and could lose her baby, according to prosecutors and Kuriakos Ciesil.

That collision caused Coleman to spin out and strike another car in the far right lane, Scaduto said. The airbags deployed in both cars.

At that point, prosecutors said, Coleman got out of his Cadillac and ran away. He was arrested about a half hour later in the 1800 block of West Harrison Street, according to an arrest report.

Chicago Fire Department officials on Tuesday said a woman and man were hospitalized in serious to critical condition. A second man was hospitalized; his condition was unknown.

Prosecutors said Coleman has prior convictions for drugs and criminal trespass to a motor vehicle.

Coleman, of the 1000 block of North Kedvale Avenue, is charged with aggravated fleeing causing bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest. He also was ticketed for running a red light, driving without insurance, driving without a seat belt and negligent driving.
