Kennatay Leavell, 31, Killed In River North Shooting That Wounded 1 Other

CHICAGO — A 31-year-old man was shot to death and another man critically wounded in River North early Friday, police said.

At 2:55 a.m., the men were in the 500 block of West Iowa Street when they were shot, police said.

The 31-year-old was hit in his face multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man was identified as Kennatay Leavell, of the 7000 block of North Ashland Avenue, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Leavell was pronounced dead at 3:09 a.m.

The other man, 34, was hit multiple times in his abdomen and was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition.

Officers didn't know what led up to the shooting, police said.

No one was in custody.
