EDGEWATER — Now in its sixth year, Edgewater's Edge Fest celebration has a new feature this year: a pet costume parade and contest that also showcases dogs available for adoption.

For $10, community members can sign up to take part in the parade, which includes a quick walk around the block, pet-themed contests and adoptable dogs from One Tail at a Time. Half of each entry ticket goes toward local food shelter Care For Real's pet food pantry, which feeds thousands of pets each year

Pets can be registered into four categories: best trick, smallest or biggest pet, pet/owner look-alike contest or best costume.

Winners will receive prize baskets courtesy of Bark Bark Club. 5943 N. Broadway and custom awards created by Edgewater Workbench, 1130 W. Thorndale Ave.

The parade will kick-off at 11 a.m. Aug. 5 from the festival's south stage at Ardmore Avenue and Broadway, before heading south onto Victoria, Magnolia and Thorndale avenues, then back onto Broadway.

After the jaunt, Natalie Martinez of NBC5 will emcee the event and Elliott Bambrough of "Chicago's Best," will judge the contest.

EdgeFest is put on by the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce and sponsored in part by local businesses.
