CHICAGO — Saturday may be the closest you ever get to your lifelong dream of quitting your job to become a professional bags player.

The Edgebrook bar-restaurant City's Edge, 5310 W. Devon Ave., is taking the day to host an outdoor tournament for the party game with cash prizes for the top two finishers.

From noon-10 p.m. Saturday, the City's Edge Bags, BBQ and Beer Festival will serve up brats and "specialty burgers" from an outdoor grill in the restaurant's parking lot, spokeswoman Jen Gordon said. Visitors can also duck inside the building for any of the barbecue plates and sandwiches regularly offered there.

A beer truck will pour Miller and Coors drafts, and a live band will perform in the late afternoon, Gordon said.

The two-person bags teams can sign up for the tournament online or in person at the event. Registration costs $50 per team, and it comes with two beers.

The top two finishing teams will earn cash prizes determined by the number of teams that sign up. The third-place team will get a "non-monetary prize" to be announced later, Gordon said.

The first round of games will start at 2 p.m.

Nearly a year after City's Edge opened in downtown Edgebrook, the restaurant's owners — all three of whom grew up in the neighborhood — "wanted to have something fun and interactive for people to participate in," Gordon said.

"They were talking about different ways to do programming, and customers expressed interest in something around bags," she said. "So they thought they'd take advantage of their nice space and the weather, and people could come on out and enjoy some barbecue."
