CHICAGO — A crash on Lake Shore Drive left a woman dead and seven people injured on Monday night, police said.
At 5:57 p.m., the woman was driving a Chevy south in the 4700 block of North Lake Shore Drive when she crossed the median into northbound traffic and hit three cars, police said. The crash might have been caused by the woman trying to change lanes while speeding, police said, citing preliminary information.
The woman was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Seven people were reported injured and were taken to area hospitals, police said.
Lake Shore Drive was closed in the area from 6:45 p.m. to 9:25 p.m.
