CABRINI-GREEN — The CHA is sticking with success when it comes to redeveloping the Cabrini-Green area.

The CHA Board of Commissioners has awarded Brinshore-Michaels the right to develop a 104-unit building at Oak and Larrabee streets. The mixed-income building is projected to include 86 apartments and 18 condos.

Brinshore-Michaels has worked on previous Cabrini-Green CHA developments, most recently 1200 Clybourn, which opened in May.

"Since 2001, Brinshore-Michaels has developed more than 1,500 mixed-income rental units in Chicago as part of CHA’s public-housing revitalization, and we are happy to continue to work with them on one of the agency’s most important projects,” CHA Chief Executive Officer Eugene Jones Jr. said.

The board designated Brinshore-Michaels as the developer and approved a loan to begin work on planning and design.

Cabrini-Green once housed 15,000 residents, most in high-rise projects along Division Street, but the CHA decided to redevelop the area and razed the complex in the 2000s.

Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. (27th) has urged displaced Cabrini-Green residents to return.
