CHICAGO — A shootout between gunmen in two cars on the Dan Ryan Expy. left at least two people wounded early Friday, police said. It was the 28th shooting on Chicago expressways this year.
At 1:06 a.m., the drivers of a white SUV and a car got into a "traffic altercation" while on the expressway near 43rd Street, according to State Police. Someone in the white SUV fired shots at the car.
One person was hit in his stomach and another person was hit in his hand, police said.
Later, a third man walked into Mercy Hospital and said he'd been shot while on the expressway, police said. It wasn't immediately clear whether the third man had been hit during the Dan Ryan shooting.
Video from the scene shows a white SUV riddled with gunshots on both its driver and passenger sides.
Dan Ryan lanes were closed for a short time after the shooting, but they reopened at 4:26 a.m.
