Portage Park Man Charged With Having Gun In Carry-On At Midway

CHICAGO — Three people tried to bring guns onto planes at Midway Airport in five days, according to the federal Transportation Security Administration.

Most recently, a 34-year-old man going to New Orleans was found to have an unloaded .380-caliber Smith and Wesson in his carry-on luggage Tuesday morning, according to a TSA news release. TSA officers spotted the gun in the man's luggage during a screening.

Peter Mazzone, of the 4200 block of North Austin Avenue, was charged with carrying a concealed firearm at an airport, Chicago Police said. He was scheduled to appear in court on Aug 21.

On Monday, a 41-year-old man was headed to Philadelphia when a loaded .380-caliber Beretta was found in his carry-on luggage, according to the TSA.

Ariel Rivera Jr.., of Valparaiso, Indiana, was charged with carrying a concealed gun at an airport, police said. He was scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 24.

And on Thursday, officials found a .380 caliber Sig Sauer on a passenger who had been planning to go to Kansas City, according to the TSA. The loaded gun was found in the man's carry-on bag during a security checkpoint, police said.

David Comiskey, of St. Charles, was charged with carrying a concealed gun at an airport, police said. He was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 7.

All of the passengers were arrested, according to the TSA. They could face fines up to $7,000 from the TSA.

In all, 12 guns have been found at Midway since the start of the year; there were 16 guns found at the airport during all of 2016, according to the TSA. Twenty-one guns were found at O'Hare Airport last year.
