McKINLEY PARK — A Chicago police dispatcher shot an 18-year-old woman in an apparent road rage incident near 35th Street and Ashland Avenue in McKinley Park Wednesday, according to police.

The women were involved in an argument in traffic when the dispute turned physical, police said. The 47-year-old dispatcher fired a shot that struck the younger woman around 1:49 p.m. Wednesday in the 3500 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

The teen was struck in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, according to police. The 47-year-old was also taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition with a head injury, police said.

The shooter is a dispatcher for the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications, confirmed Melissa Stratton, an agency spokeswoman.

A police spokesperson said the 47-year-old will be interviewed at the hospital and that no charges have been filed.
