CHICAGO — Two children, ages 4 and 6 years old, and a 27-year-old man were shot in Austin on Wednesday, police said.

At 3:59 p.m. Wednesday, the three victims took themselves to Mount Sinai Hospital after being shot in the 5500 block of West Van Buren Street, according to police. The man had been shot in his chest and was in critical condition.

One of the children, a boy, had his leg grazed by a bullet and a girl was shot in her leg. Their conditions were not immediately available but they were listed as "stable," police said.

The children were 4 and 6 years old, Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed.

No one was in custody.

The children were leaving a day camp and going to get snow cones from a vendor near Columbus Park with their father when they were shot, the Tribune reported.

"I’m moving far away," the children's mother, a CTA employee, told the Tribune. "This is it. We are moving. … Our kids will no longer be here. We’re moving for better."

The incident means at least 20 children who were 13 or younger have been shot this year. On Friday, 10-year-old Gustavo Garcia was shot dead in East Side.
