CHICAGO — A 27-year-old man was shot and wounded during a robbery in West Town early Monday and as of Monday afternoon was still in critical condition, police said.

At 12:56 a.m., the man was walking in an alley in the 1800 block of West Erie Street when someone robbed him and fired shots, police said.

The man was shot in his face  and he took himself to St. Mary Hospital, where his condition was listed as "critical stable," police said.

The man was transferred to Stroger Hospital.

"He is still in critical condition, that has not changed," Officer Brandi Wright a Chicago Police spokeswoman, said on Monday afternoon.

According to Wright, the man told police he was at Output Lounge, 1758 W. Grand Ave. before getting robbed in the alley.

Eddie Gutierrez, owner of Output Lounge, said that the bar is cooperating with police.

"From what I understand, he was here earlier by himself, ate and had a drink or two, and left around 11 p.m. or so. No one left with him or immediately after him. We didn't see anything. Police reviewed the security camera for a while after he left and did not see anyone follow him out," Gutierrez said.

No one was in custody for the shooting.

Wright said an investigation is ongoing but at this time police do not believe the incident was gang related.

Gutierrez pointed out that almost two hours had passed between when the man was seen on video leaving the bar and when he says he was robbed.

"We are alarmed that stuff like that is going on and hope they find out who did it and anything we can do to help, we are cooperating fully and hope he'll be okay," Gutierrez said.

In May 2016, a man was shot in the neck outside of the Output Lounge in an incident that sparked a community meeting.
