CHICAGO — Barely a month after their inaugural ride brought dozens of cyclists from Forest Glen to Niles, the North Branch Trail Alliance of Greater Chicago is planning a second jaunt through the newly-extended trail.
Its Farmer's Market Ride charts a nearly 10-mile course from suburban Glenview to Edgebrook and Gladstone Park on the Northwest Side, stopping at three pop-up markets along the way.
The markets are "popular venues where riders can shop at whole bunch of local businesses all in one place," fitting the alliance's mission of spurring commerce all along the trail, according to co-founder Jac Charlier.
Riders will depart at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Glenview Farmer's Market at the Historic Wagner Farm, 1510 Wagner Road.
They'll head to the Morton Grove Farmer's Market, and around 11 a.m. they'll leave for the Edgebrook Farmer's Market at Edgebrook Public School, 6535 N. Hiawatha Ave.
Finally, around 12:30 p.m., riders will gather at The Garage Bar & Sandwiches, 6154 N. Milwaukee Ave., where they'll "socialize and build community over good food and brews," Charlier said.
Anyone can sign up to participate by emailing NorthBranchTrailAlliance@gmail.com. In return, they'll be sent a map of the course planned for Saturday.
