Armed Robbers Hit Convenience Stores In Back of the Yards, Police Say

CHICAGO — Police issued a community alert after two convenience stores in Back of the Yards were robbed at gunpoint.

The incidents occurred:

• At 7 p.m. July 2 in the 5200 Block of South Ashland Avenue

• At 3:20 p.m. July 3 in the 5400 Block of South Ashland Avenue

The offenders are described as heavy-set black men age 19-30, between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot-4 and weighing 170-250 pounds.

Police are asking residents to be aware of their surroundings, remain calm if confronted by a robber, remember any unique characteristics and to never chase a fleeing robber.
