Robert Sharpe, 60, Shot Dead By Robber In Garfield Park

CHICAGO — A 60-year-old man was shot to death during an attempted robbery in Garfield Park early Saturday, police said.

At 4:55 a.m., the man was walking on the sidewalk in the 3200 block of West Franklin Boulevard when someone walked up and told the man to hand over his money, police said. The robber and the man struggled, and the man was shot in his left shoulder.

The robber ran away and the man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Robert Sharpe, of the 4300 block of West Washington, was pronounced dead at 5:43 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died from a gunshot wound in his left arm in a homicide.

No one was in custody.
