North Side Cars Targeted In Spree Of Catalytic Converter Thefts

CHICAGO — Police are seeking suspects following a rash of late-night catalytic-converter thefts on the North Side.

In each incident, one or more people removed a catalytic converter from a parked car during the late evening or overnight hours, the Chicago Police Department announced in a community alert Tuesday.

The thefts occurred:

• June 30 to July 1 in the 4300 block of North Winchester Avenue between noon and 6:45 a.m.

• July 5-6 in the 1500 block of West School Street between 5:25 p.m. and 7 a.m.

• July 5-6 in the 2600 block of North Bosworth Avenue between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m.

• July 6 in the 1000 block of West School Street about 8 a.m.

• July 6-7 in the 4700 block of North Malden Street between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

• July 7 in the 4100 block of North Hermitage Avenue between midnight and 7 am.

• July 8 in the 3400 block of North Claremont Avenue about 4 a.m.

• July 8-9 in the 1600 block of West Cornelia Avenue between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

• July 9 in the 1700 block of West School Street about 5 a.m.

• July 10 in the 500 block of West Oakdale Avenue between midnight and 1 p.m.

• July 10 in the 2300 block of West Cornelia Avenue about 1:30 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8263 and mention Alert No. P17-N-154CA. Police are urging residents to call 911 to report suspicious activity.
