LINCOLN PARK — The internet sales behemoth Amazon is opening a new pickup store near the DePaul University campus.

Customers will be able to pick up items and make free returns at the store, to be located at 1001 W. Webster Ave., a block south of the Student Center.

It's the second Chicago outlet from the company's Amazon Campus subsidiary after Amazon opened a pickup store at the University of Illinois at Chicago last fall.

Although clearly aimed at DePaul students, any customer will be able to arrange to pick up items ordered online at the 2,800-square-foot store and make free returns there. Same-day and one-day delivery will be available to Amazon Prime customers.

Otherwise, the store will not offer items for sale, unlike the Amazon bookstore that opened in Lakeview earlier this year.

Amazon spokeswoman Carly Golden said the store would be "offering the community a convenient way to pick up and return Amazon orders, including virtually everything one needs."

A $500,000 work permit was issued for the site June 16. The Amazon outlet was expected to open this fall.
