CHICAGO — Police officers fatally shot a man Saturday night in North Lawndale, police said, adding that an AK-47 rifle and a handgun were found at the scene.
At 10:45 p.m., officers were called to the 2200 block of South Kostner Avenue for a report of a person with a gun, police said. The officers went down a gangway leading to a backyard and found a man with a gun.
One of the officers shot at the man, police said. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he died.
The man was identified as Quentica Locke, 36, of an unknown home address, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Locke was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m. Sunday.
Officers found the AK-47 rifle and a handgun at the scene of the shooting, police said. An officer was taken to a hospital for evaluation and was treated and released.
The officer or officers involved in the incident will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days, police said. The incident is being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority.
The officers who responded to the incident were wearing body cameras, police said.
Neighbors had called police after hearing gunshots that might be related to a feud between families on the block, the Tribune reported.
