DOWNTOWN — The weekend is expected to be dry and cooler for Chicago — which means it might be better than what you'll get for the Fourth of July.

The city is "currently in the middle of a stormy stretch," said AccuWeather meteorologist Frank Strait, and it's possible there will be rain showers Saturday afternoon. Saturday and Sunday are expected be largely dry.

Another storm front will come in on Sunday night, leading to showers and thunderstorms into Monday, Strait said.

Temperatures on Friday are expected to hit 80 degrees, and they'll top out at 82 degrees Saturday and 85 degrees Sunday. Humidity will drop on Saturday and Sunday won't be "terribly humid," Strait said.

"For the most part, Saturday looks to be a nice day," Strait said.

Monday and Tuesday — when the Fourth of July will be celebrated — will be "kind of muggy" and see high temperatures around 80 degrees, Strait said. Those days "won't exactly be comfortable," he said, though the weather's not out of the ordinary for early July.

The normal high temperature for this time of year in Chicago is about 84 degrees, Strait said.
