LINCOLN PARK — One of Chicago's leading literary transplants will discuss immigration at a Facets screening Monday night.
Author Aleksandar Hemon, a native Bosnian who has written extensively in both fiction and nonfiction about adopting Chicago as his home during the siege of Sarajevo 25 years ago, plays host to a screening of "L'America" at 6:30 p.m. at Facets, 1517 W. Fullerton Ave.
"L'America" is a 1994 film by Gianni Amelio about Italian racketeers trying to exploit the fall of communism in Albania in the '80s in a story Facets says "touches on the personal issues which underlie so much of the myth, reality, and misperception about immigration."
Hemon is the author of "The Lazarus Project," "Nowhere Man" and, most recently, "The Book of My Lives" and "The Making of Zombie Wars."
It's part of Facets' "Teach-In" series. Tickets are free, but Facets asks that those interested register beforehand.
Hemon has written biting articles on the election of President Donald Trump and its effect on immigration and on life in Chicago.
