CHICAGO — A 28-year-old man was killed in a shooting in Austin on Saturday, police said.
At 5 p.m., the man was walking in the 1200 block of North Laramie Avenue when a car drove by and someone inside the car fired shots at the man, police said.
The man was hit in his upper chest and he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The man was identified as Maurice Purnell, of the 4900 block of South Kamerling Avenue, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Purnell was pronounced dead at 5:53 p.m. and an autopsy showed he died from multiple gunshots wounds in a homicide.
The man was a documented gang member, a police source said.
No one was in custody.
