ROGERS PARK — With the summer wedding season in full swing, there's at least one thing guests shouldn't bring with to the celebration: two left feet.

Glenwood Dance Studio in Rogers Park says it can help with that.

From 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, the 7017 N. Glenwood Ave. studio is hosting a "How To Fake It At A Wedding" class that provides attendees with the choreography they need to bust out reception classics like the Cupid shuffle and electric slide, as well as how to move to slow jams, "freestyle like a pro" and more.

The event serves as nearly a simulation of the wedding itself: Class participants are invited to BYOB and come dressed in their wedding best. Between 6:30-7 p.m. dancers will get a chance to socialize and enjoy snacks and pop.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

Sandra Verthein, a part-time volunteer at the studio and civil engineer by day, said the idea came to her while talking to a man she works with about the adult classes the dance studio offered, like ballet, jazz and tap.

"He said 'I don't need all of that, I just want to learn enough to fake it at a wedding,'" Verthein said.

The phrase stuck in her head until she heard another person echo the sentiment during one of the adult drop-in classes.

"What he really wanted was a social dance class so that the next time he had to go to a wedding he would know what to do on the dance floor," she said. "So I thought to myself, 'Why not offer a class that was exactly that?'"

If the event is a success, Verthein said the studio would schedule it again.

In the past, the group has held other holiday-oriented BYOB classes for adults, and has a regular Sassy Heels class on Tuesday.

The unique dance events are meant to both teach and provide an outlet for people to let loose, Verthein said.

"I love all the classic wedding dances, and I think the class will be a lot of fun both for people who wanted to learn the dances, and for those who know them but just want an excuse to dance," she said.
