HUMBOLDT PARK — A man caught by police with drugs and a gun in Humboldt Park Friday morning has been charged, officials said.
According to Officer Tom Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman, Shakespeare District (14th) officers noticed a man "engage in a suspect narcotics transaction" around 10 a.m. Friday in the 3300 block of West Beach Avenue and when they approached him to investigate, he fled.
Officers were able to take Anthony Alvarado, 22, of the Beach Avenue block into custody a short time later and found several bags of marijuana, a loaded handgun and powdered and crack cocaine on him, police said.
Alvarado was charged with one count of armed violence with a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and manufacture/delivery of cannabis near a school, police said.
