BEVERLY — It's dad's turn for a free Original Rainbow Cone.

The ice cream shop at 9233 S. Western Ave. in Beverly will offer a free, small Rainbow Cone for dads with the purchase of another item. The Father's Day promotion follows a similar offer on Mother's Day.

Dads must be present and there are no to-go cones or substitutions.

Rainbow Cone is a Chicago tradition that dates to 1926 — tasty chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (that’s New York vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio ice creams and orange sherbet are sliced rather than scooped and jammed into a cone.

In previous years, the Mother's Day promotion has seen nearly 400 moms come through the doors of the pink building that faces west along Western Avenue. Rainbow Cone is open from noon-9:30 p.m. Sunday.
