CHICAGO — An off-duty Chicago Aviation Department security officer was injured and a teenager shot when bullets flew between two cars Thursday night in the northwest suburbs, officials said.
Lauren Huffman, a spokeswoman for the Aviation Department, declined to comment on the incident, saying the Buffalo Grove Police Department is investigating what happened at 9:06 p.m. Thursday near Deerfield Parkway near Brandywyn Road in the northwest suburbs.
An 18-year-old man was shot in his abdomen during the altercation, police said. The unidentified 31-year-old Aviation security officer also was injured when he was struck by the other car near a gas station, according to a statement from the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
The officer has been released from the hospital. The teen is expected to be released late Friday, officials said.
No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, officials said.
Two compressed air rifles and an air pistol from the teen's car and a handgun from the officer's car have been recovered, officials said.
Three Aviation Department security officers have been suspended with pay in connection with their role in the fracas that erupted April 9 after officers dragged a Louisville doctor off a United Airlines flight, seriously injuring him.
Inspector General Joseph Ferguson is conducting an "expedited disciplinary review," and a separate examination of security at the airport is underway, officials said.
